I have a confession.
I had a slow/lazy start to 2021.
NYE - Worked in the shop (in bed by 9pm #thankyouverymuch)
1/1/21 - Road tripped to Fort Aber Saloon in Abercrombie ND with friends to deliver another round of mugs (and have lunch and drinks of course) **seriously, they have treated me so well in 2020**
1/2/21 - Lounged basically all day and binge watched Dawsons Creek **reliving all my college days**
1/3/21 - Made an amazing soup - ham bone and cabbage, cleaned the car, tidied the house, odds and ends, normal Sunday stuff
I know all the popular memes and hashtags say #hustleharder #grindandshine #5oclockclub - blah, blah, blah… I get it! I do! I also have the belief that life is about balance and being slow and intentional is better than running in circles.
I did a puzzle. Not a super huge, hard, going to take 3 weeks to put together puzzle… just a simple plain puzzle. At first, I laid out all the pieces, obviously focusing on the edge first, then grouped the pieces by color and worked on the bottom chunk of words, then the red/plaid shirt. It was slow moving at first, there were just so many loose pieces and not a lot of options on the puzzle to use those pieces. So for every piece I picked up, it took quite some time to find its home. Then, and I don’t know when it happened, maybe about 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through - the pieces started to click. I’d pick up a piece and BOOM instantly find its home on the puzzle. It took me about 4 hours to put together the first half of the puzzle and about 40 minutes to put together the second half of the puzzle.
I giggle at the irony of the damn puzzle…. that’s life. Of course when you don’t know where you’re going or how you’re going to get there, things are tough - things move slow - things don’t click - DON’T GIVE UP. Life is a HUGE puzzle… just keep putting the pieces in place - and don’t worry, if you put one in the wrong spot, just correct that when you realize and keep on trudging forward - because some day the puzzle will be complete.
I’m sitting here drinking my morning coffee and envisioning on the year to come. Sure, I have a stack of work orders to fulfill (I always do well with a full to do list)… I also have the mindset to know that I need to work on the business not just for the business. This year, my goal is to be more intentional with my business, with my life, with everything - slowly keep putting the puzzle together.
